ABOUT THE BAND |
|

Don’t make the mistake of thinking Sacred Union is your typical rock, funk, pop band. In fact, their diverse repertoire covers songs from The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince, Hall and Oates, The Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran, and Etta James, to Smash Mouth, Lenny Kravitz, Kid Rock, David Bowie, and so many other iconic world class artists.
It all began in 2015 when members Mark Lyman, Tabby, and Dave Hemingway crossed paths and became musical partners forming the high profile 8 piece funk band “B-Side Jones” performing at top venues and city concerts all over South Florida, including sharing the stage with national artists like Molly Hatchet, and The Rippingtons.
Five years later in October 2020, looking to streamline the lineup and move towards a slightly edgier sound, Mark, Tabby and Dave eventually found Nashville drummer/percussionist Tige Bucchino, and keyboardist Patrick Fazio to complete Sacred Union.
Sacred Union’s unique musical arrangements and driving performance are what makes every song stand out, and has the audience on their feet and dancing as they bring their infectious brand of rock, funk and pop to every show!!
Sacred Union is:
Tabby: Lead vocals/Saxophone,
Mark Lyman: Guitar/Backing vocals

Mark Lyman

Mark's musical journey began in Montreal, Canada, where he was surrounded by guitars from a young age. At just 10 years old, he discovered the album that would shape his musical destiny: Jimi Hendrix's Are You Experienced? This moment ignited his passion for music, and he became a self-taught, ear-trained guitarist. Driven by dreams of recording albums and touring the world, Mark's dedication led him to success. In 1982, at the age of 25, Mark became the guitarist for the Canadian rock band Luba, which he helped form.
The band signed a multi-album deal with Capitol Records, which led to collaborations with top Grammy Award-winning producers like Daniel Lanois (known for his work with U2, Peter Gabriel, and Bob Dylan) and Narada Michael Walden (renowned for his work with Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Steve Winwood). Mark spent the next eight years writing and recording gold and platinum-selling albums. Luba performed to sold-out arenas across Canada and shared the stage with iconic acts such as Bryan Adams, Chris DeBurgh, Cheap Trick, Paul Young, and Brian Ferry. Their singles hit the Top 10 on the Canadian rock charts, and they won numerous Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent to the Grammy Awards) for music and videos. Notably, Luba performed at the prestigious Budokan in Tokyo for the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in 1986, and their singles "The Best is Yet to Come" and "Let It Go" appeared in the film 9 1/2 Weeks starring Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke.
In 1992, after parting ways with the band, Mark transitioned into a new role as an agent/manager in the music industry, representing some of the world’s most notable classic rock artists. 25 years later, when the itch to perform again perform resurfaced, Mark returned to the stage, answering a local ad for a guitarist. The rest, as they say, is history.
As the guitarist of Sacred Union, Mark infuses the band with his rock and funk-driven guitar playing, adding a dynamic layer to their sound. His energetic and versatile style enhances the band's collective musical energy, making him an integral part of their powerful, cohesive performance. Whether driving the rhythm or delivering searing solos, Mark’s contribution is key to shaping Sacred Union's unique musical identity.

Tabby

Tabby's musical journey began in Louisiana, where he was surrounded by music from an early age. Growing up with an old piano in the house, he quickly developed a natural ear for picking up songs. His mother’s love for Barry Manilow’s Live album became an unexpected inspiration, and before long, Tabby was practicing singing in earnest, determined to follow in the footsteps of his favorite artists.
His first opportunity as a front man came courtesy of his uncles, who were all musicians and local performers. One night, they invited him on stage, and without hesitation, he grabbed the mic and belted out "Brown Eyed Girl." The audience’s enthusiastic reaction ignited a passion for live performance that would stay with him throughout his career.
After studying music theory, composition, and arranging at Louisiana State University, Tabby moved to South Florida. There, he honed his craft by fronting a variety of bands spanning numerous genres, from oldies to blues, hard rock, pop rock, and even an Irish band. Despite his wide-ranging musical experiences, he found his true calling with Sacred Union, where he feels most at home on stage.
Tabby brings the same adrenaline and excitement he feels when riding his Ducati motorcycle, to every Sacred Union performance, delivering a high-energy musical experience that guarantees a lively and unforgettable show. Whether it's the thrill of the ride or the thrill of the stage, Tabby’s exuberance shines through, making every Sacred Union show a true celebration of music and energy

David Hemingway

Dave Hemingway is undeniably the man who brings the funk to Sacred Union! Starting on guitar at age 12 before transitioning to bass, music quickly became Dave’s passion and, eventually, his way of life. After finishing high school, Dave moved from Merritt Island, Florida, to Lafayette, Louisiana, where he immersed himself in the local music scene, playing with a wide range of projects.
While in Louisiana, a friend introduced him to two bassists who were making waves in the international jazz scene—Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius. Their innovative approach to jazz fusion completely transformed Dave's view of the bass guitar and reshaped his musical direction. This newfound inspiration led to a stint as the bassist for the house band at the renowned Antlers Club and even gave him the opportunity to jam with the legendary Dr. John during one of many unforgettable nights in New Orleans.
Eventually, Dave returned to South Florida, where he raised a family and continued to hone his craft. He played with various bands, including one that opened for Ted Nugent, all the while perfecting his abilities in funk, rock, blues, and jazz. Today, as Sacred Union’s bassist, Dave is fondly known as the most “chill” member of the band. His ultimate responsibility is to inject "the groove"—a role he handles with ease, fueling the band’s undeniable rhythm and energy. Dave's deep understanding of musical styles and his impeccable sense of timing make him the foundation of Sacred Union’s funk/rock-infused sound.
